Who we are
Not So Ancient Stories is a small, independent website that shares modern short fiction inspired by the Bible. We care much more about telling stories than collecting data, and this page explains what little information we do collect, how we use it, and what we will never do with it.
What we don’t do
We do not run ads, ad trackers, or behavior-based advertising on this site.
We do not sell, rent, trade, or otherwise share your personal information with third parties for their own marketing.
We do not use cookies for tracking you across other websites.
Cookies & local storage
The Not So Ancient Stories website itself does not use cookies for analytics, advertising, or user tracking.
Some features may use your browser’s local storage to remember simple preferences. For example, our story rating feature may store your own rating on your device so you can see what you rated a story. This information does not identify you personally and is not sent to us as a profile about you.
If you prefer, you can clear local storage and cookies at any time using your browser settings.
Email subscriptions
If you choose to subscribe for story updates, we collect the information you enter in the form, typically your email address (and sometimes your first name). We use this information only to send occasional updates about new stories, site news, or related content.
We use a third-party email service (such as Zoho Campaigns) to manage the mailing list and deliver emails. You can unsubscribe at any time using the link found at the bottom of any email we send.
Contact forms and email
When you contact us (for example, through the Contact page or by emailing us directly), we receive the information you choose to provide, such as your name, email address, and message. We use this information only to read, respond, and follow up on your inquiry. We do not add you to our mailing list unless you specifically ask us to.
Story ratings
Our story rating feature is designed to collect anonymous feedback so we can see which stories are resonating. When you submit a rating, we may record information such as:
- Which story was rated
- The rating value you chose
- The date and time of the rating
Ratings are stored without your name or email address. The service we use to process ratings (for example, a Google script or similar tool) may automatically log technical information such as IP address or browser type for security and abuse prevention, but we do not use that information to build profiles about you.
“Buy Me a Coffee” and other support
Financial support (for example, through “Buy Me a Coffee” or similar services) is processed entirely by that third-party platform. We do not collect or store your full payment details on this site. We may see what the service shows us in our creator dashboard (such as the time of your gift, the amount, and any name or message you choose to share).
Your use of those services is also governed by their own privacy policies, which we encourage you to review on their websites.
Social media & share buttons
Our pages may include links or buttons that let you visit or share content on social platforms such as Facebook, X, Instagram, or Pinterest. Clicking those links will take you to those platforms, which may collect information about you according to their own privacy policies.
We do not receive your social media account details from these platforms when you click a simple share or follow link.
Server logs and security
Like most websites, our hosting provider automatically collects basic log information when you visit the site. This may include your IP address, browser type, the pages you visited, and timestamps. These logs are used to keep the site secure, prevent abuse, and diagnose technical issues.
We do not combine server logs with other information to create a profile of you as an individual visitor.
Data retention
We keep:
- Email subscription data for as long as you remain subscribed (or until we close the list).
- Contact emails for as long as reasonably needed to handle your inquiry and maintain normal email records.
- Anonymous rating data for as long as we maintain the site and its statistics.
- Server logs for a limited time as determined by our hosting provider for security and maintenance.
Children’s privacy
Not So Ancient Stories is intended for a general audience and is not specifically directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, please contact us and we will delete it.
Your choices & rights
You can:
- Unsubscribe from story emails at any time using the link in the email.
- Contact us to ask what information we may have about you (for example, your email on a mailing list or a past message).
- Ask us to correct or delete information we hold about you, where applicable.
Changes to this policy
As the site grows or our tools change, we may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we do, we will change the “Last updated” date at the top of this page. If you continue to use the site after changes are posted, that will mean you accept the updated policy.
